Hello Sun Crochet Doily

For the last few days the Sun has been peeking behind the clouds a little more than it used to until now, so to welcome it and prepare myself for the upcoming warmer months I’ve created a doily pattern that (hopefully) celebrates the Sun and brings a little warmth into the home as well.

Hope you enjoy!

Materials used:

·         100% cotton crochet thread (I used Unitas Janja thread in the color 04- yellow)
·         2,00 mm crochet hook
·         Stitch marker
·         Scissors
·         Starch

Notes:

·         Don’t join rounds unless otherwise stated
·         Always mark 1st stitch
·         On even rounds (from 2-16); work through back loops of SCs

Let’s begin!

Ch-6, Sl.St. to 1st chain – circle made

Round 1: ch-1, work 12 SC through ring = 12 SC

Round 2: Sl.St. in every stitch around = 12 Sl. Sts.

Round 3: working in back loops of the SC Sts from round 1, work 2 SC in every ST = 24 SC

Round 4: Sl. St. in every SC stitch around = 24 Sl. Sts.

Round 5: Working in back loops of the SC Sts from round 3, work *2 SC in first St, then 1 SC in next* repeat around = 36 SC

Round 6: Sl. St. in every SC St = 36 Sl. Sts

Round 7: Working in back loops of the SC Sts from round 5, work * 2 SC in first St, 1 SC in next two Sts* repeat around = 48 SC

Round 8: Sl. St. to first back loop of SC from previous round, then Ch-4 (counts as DC+Ch-1), skip next SC then *1 DC in next st, ch-1, skip next SC* repeat around, ending with a ch-1, sl.st. to 3rd chain of beginning ch-4.

Round 9: Ch-1, 2SC in same St as joining * 1 SC in next Ch-1 space, 1 SC in next DC, 1 SC in next Ch-1 space, 2 SC in next DC* repeat around, ending on 1 SC in next Ch-1 space = 60 SC

Round 10: Sl. St. in every SC = 60 Sl. Sts.

Round 11: *Work 2 SC in first St., then work 1 SC in next four Sts* repeat around = 72 SC

Round 12: Work Sl. St. in every St. = 72 Sl. Sts.

Round 13: *Work 2 SC in first St., then work 1 SC in next five Sts* repeat around. = 84 SC

Round 14: Work Sl. St. in every St.= 84 Sl. Sts.

Round 15: *Work 2 SC in first St., then work 1 SC in next six Sts* repeat around = 96 SC
Round 16: Work Sl. Sts. Around = 96 Sl. Sts.

Round 17: Working in back loops of previous round, Ch-5 ( counts as DC+ ch-2), 1 DC in same St as joining ( first V-stitch made). *Ch-3, skip 2 SC, V-st in 3rd SC* repeat around, ending with Ch-3; join to 3rd chain of beginning ch-5. = 32 V-sts and 32 Ch-3 spaces.

Round 18: Ch-7, 1 Sc in next Ch-3 space *Ch-6, 1 SC in next Ch-3 space* repeat around, ending with Ch-6 and joining to 1st chain of beginning Ch-7.

Round 19: Sl.St. into first Ch-6 space, Ch-1, work 8 Sc in same space, *sl.st. into next ch-6 space and work 8 SC* repeat around; sl.st. to first SC

Round 20: Work around as follows: *SC, HDC, DC, Ch-2, DC, HDC, SC, Sl.St.* around = you should end up with 32 shells

Round 21: Sl. St. until you reach first Ch-2 space, then ch-12, *skip one shell and in next work 1 SC and Ch-12* = 16 Ch-12 spaces

Round 22: In every Ch-12 space work 24 SC (skipping the SC Sts)

Round 23: Sl.st. in every SC of previous round

Round 24: MAKING THE RAYS:

Filled Ray: Working in back loops of round 22, SC in the next 24 sts, ch-1 and turn your work, SC-2-TOG and work 20 more SC going through both loops, SC-2-TOG, Ch-1, turn. Then work a row of Sl.Sts.
à Continue alternating 1 decrease row and 1 Sl.St. row ( decrease is done by working SC-2-TOG on beginning and end of round). Until you SC last two sts together.

*** SCs are worked through back loops!
After you’ve completed the first ray, work Sl.Sts. evenly along side of ray until you reach the sl.sts. of round 23.

à Empty Ray: Sl.St through both loops of round 22 for the next 9 sts, in 10th st, work 1 SC, in 11th 1 HDC, in 12th (1 DC,Ch-3, sl.st.to 1st ch, 1 DC = all in same st), then in the 13th work 1 HDC, in 14th 1 SC and then Sl. St. in the next ten sts.
Continue making the rays in this way all around!

Cut thread and weave in ends.

Soak in starch and press!
